Salt Lake City: Little America Hotel: "How to maintain a motel room"
Aug 4, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, San Mateo, CA
We stayed at Little America (the old section) in Salt Lake City on the first night of a three week long vacation through the national parks of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. Now this is how an older motel ought to be kept!!! I know this motel must be going on 50 years old or more. But the room we had was in absolutely perfect condition. Even the old sink, tub, and toilet in the bathroom looked and functioned like new. The room was decorated sort of Early American/Colonial. It reminded me of a few B&B's we have stayed in. The bed was without a doubt the best motel/hotel room bed I have ever slept in. The room was totally quietly, spotless, in pristine condition. And $88 for the night. If they can maintain those rooms all these years in that condition charging those prices, why can't every motel in the USA look like that? What a fantastic place!!!

We stayed here for 2 nights in July and wish we could have stayed longer. Ours was a Tower room and it was huge with two large beds, sitting area, dressing area and bathroom. Although some of the furniture looks a bit dated, the overall room appearance is very luxurious. The breakfast buffet offered a wide range of cereals, fruit, hot items and breads and was reasonably priced. We also had a nice evening meal in the restaurant. The hotel has 2 pools - an outdoor one and one which is half inside, half outside. The only negative comment I could make is that when we tried to order coffee from room service, we were told it would take up to an hour! So we just got it from the Coffee Shop instead. If you have a car, there is plenty of parking beneath the hotel. If not, although the hotel is several blocks from the city centre, there is a stop for the TRAX light rail train about 100 yards from the hotel. This offers free travel within the downtown area, e.g. to Temple Square or The Gateway shopping area. Overall, this is a great hotel and I would award it 6 out of 5 if I could !

On a recent road trip, my wife and I stayed at Little America in a tower king bed room. It was a very pleasant surprise. The room was huge with upscale furnishings and exquisite linens including down pillows and duvets. The room included a lounging area, dining table, desk, separate dressing room and nice bathroom. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel is located in close proximity to downtown, airport and freeways.
Echoing another rater, if you want the great Little America experience, make sure you book a Tower Room and not the motel rooms next door.
